Loup-Garou Sans Carte

Classic Werewolf, online and over several nights

Werewolf the way you first played it at camp or with friends: every night, the pack devours someone; every day, the village votes to eliminate a suspect. Here, the narrator is the server: it wakes the roles, counts the votes, keeps the secrets… and mutes the dead.

How a game goes

The game alternates night and day until one side wins:

  1. Night. Everyone closes their eyes. The narrator calls the roles one by one: on the first night, Cupid forms a couple and the Masons recognize each other; then, every night, the Guardian protects someone, the Werewolves pick their victim, the Seer discovers a card and the Witch may save or poison.
  2. Dawn. The village wakes up and discovers the night's dead. Each dead player's card is turned face up for everyone.
  3. Day. The survivors debate on the mic. The dead stay silent: their mic is off until the end.
  4. Vote. Everyone points at a suspect. The most-voted player is executed and their card revealed; on a tie, nobody dies.

Who wins?

  • The village wins when every wolf is dead.
  • The wolves win as soon as they are as many as the other living players.
  • The Tanner wins alone if the village executes him.
  • Cupid's lovers win together if they are the last two survivors, even from opposite sides.

Roles in classic mode

Roles that swap cards (Robber, Troublemaker, Drunk, Insomniac, Doppelgänger, Ghost Hunter) only exist in one-night mode. All the others get a slightly different power that lasts the whole game:

  • The Witch has a potion of life and a potion of death, each usable once.
  • The Guardian protects one player every night, but never the same one two nights in a row.
  • The Hunter shoots a player of his choice when he dies.
  • The Little Girl may spy on the wolves every night, at the risk of being spotted.
  • The Mystic Wolf hunts with the pack and also discovers one card every night.
  • The Tramp gets two players drunk: their voice is slurred for the whole game.

Playing online changes everything

Around a table, you need a game master who doesn't play, tightly closed eyes and a lot of trust. Online, the server is the game master: nobody can cheat, the pack's votes only show to the wolves, and a dead player can't drop hints since their mic is off.

Create a game, choose Classic in the waiting room, and the host builds the deck (at least one wolf, and always more villagers than wolves). The automatic deck adapts to the number of players.

Frequently asked questions

How many players do you need for classic werewolf?
From 5 to 16 players. Below 5, the one-night mode is more fun; above 10, add a second or third wolf.
What happens when you die?
Your card is revealed and your mic is muted. You keep watching the game and hearing the living, but you can no longer talk or vote.
Can the Witch save herself?
Yes: if the wolves choose her, she can drink her potion of life. But she only has one for the whole game.
Can the Guardian protect himself?
Yes, but never the same player two nights in a row, himself included.
Can you play classic werewolf without a game master?
Yes, that's the whole point of the online version: the narrator and referee is the server. Everyone plays.
